The AB STAR commitment is built on four fundamental principles: Sustainability,
Total Quality, Animal Well-Being, and Responsibility.
Agri Beef Co. believes that promoting Sustainability
in all of its operations is critical to everyone’s future. Not only does the company
recognize that it has an environmental responsibility to sustain and protect its
own natural resources, but it is on the forefront of industry efforts to reduce
its overall carbon footprint through aggressive local crop sourcing and an efficient
composting program. Returning nutrients to the earth enriches the soil and simultaneously
provides economic benefits to the producing farmers.
Beginning as ranchers themselves, the Rebholtz family also recognizes the critical
need of supporting the long-term sustainability of the family farms and ranches
remaining in the Northwest. By providing strong regional economic opportunities,
it is the goal of the company to keep the industry healthy and viable and this traditional
way of life alive for future generations.
A Total Quality philosophy is implemented throughout
Agri Beef’s sustainable beef production model. Agri Beef Co. is the first beef company
in North America that has withstood the rigorous scrutiny of the International Organization
of Standards (ISO) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) in every step
of its beef supply chain. In addition, Agri Beef Co.’s Washington Beef processing
facility is federally inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
and has Food Safety System 22000 Certification (FSSC 22000:2010), which makes the
facility compliant with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognizing food
safety practices at the highest level.
A respect for Animal Well-Being is a core principle
for everyone at Agri Beef, and its affiliated companies adhere to strict animal
welfare policies ensuring proper care and handling of all animals throughout its
supply chain. These high standards were developed in collaboration with leading
industry experts like Dr. Temple Grandin, and are documented and continually updated
to reflect the most proactive policies.
Agri Beef Co. feels a strong Responsibility to its
employees and to the people in the communities in which it operates. Safety, health
and education are the cornerstones of its human resource programs and Agri Beef
actively contributes to local organizations that assist children, support agriculture
and fight hunger. Agri Beef has donated substantial resources to local food banks
towards this cause and is a founding member of the NW “Beef Counts”* program.
